
King Mohammed VI launches the ‘Marrakech, city of permanent renewal’ project
Marrakech – King Mohammed VI launched the ‘Marrakech, city of permanent renewal’ project in Marrakech on Monday, which aims to establish the ocher city as an urban center that achieves sustainable and balanced human development.
Before the King, the Mayor of Marrakech, Fatima-Ezzahra El Mansouri read a speech explaining the overall features of the ‘Marrakech, city of renewal’ project permanent ».
In her presentation, Mayor El Mansouri stressed that this project, mobilizing investments of 6.3 billion dirhams, will make it possible to achieve development that ensures local services, responds to the challenges of housing, transport and the environment, and preserves the cultural and heritage wealth of the city of Marrakech.
And to add that to achieve this objective, the efforts of different actors in the city of Marrakech were mobilized to develop this project on the basis of a participatory approach (30 workshops were organized by the municipal council with the participation of 1,200 citizens).
This project intervenes to support the urban expansion and economic development experienced by the ocher city, explained El Mansouri, noting that this four-year program (2014-2017) focuses on the promotion of cultural heritage, the improvement of urban mobility, urban integration, and the preservation of the environment.
Regarding urban integration (2,250 MMD), new health, education and sports structures will be created for the benefit of certain disadvantaged neighborhoods (El Kodya, Mhamid, Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Dar Tounissi and Ain Aiti) in order to ensure better integration of the population into the dynamics experienced by the city.
