2017, YEAR OF RENEWAL FOR THE MARRAKECH HOTELIER ASSOCIATION
L’Association of the Hotel Industry of Marrakech (AIH) begins a new life after several years of lethargy. In a city which has 210 hotels of all categories, including 130 large establishments having invested billions of dirhams and created thousands of jobs, it was necessary for this professional representation, which has 99 active members including large Moroccan and foreign hotel chains, to finally play its role as a strike and negotiation force. “Following the elective general assembly held on January 13, a new council of 25 people and a new office made up of 16 people were elected”, declares a member of the AIH. President Salaheddine Naciri, former regional director of Atlas Hotels in Marrakech, was reappointed for a 3-year term. The novelty lies in the election of 4 vice-presidents. They are Ahmed Bennani, owner of the Hivernage&Spa hotel, Abdelali Chaoui, owner of Eden Andalou Marrakech, Zineb Chaâbi, CEO of Mogador hotels & Resorts and Lahcen Zelmat, CEO of Palm Plazza Marrakech. The ultimate objective is to unite all the hoteliers of the ocher city around the defense of the interests of the industry to improve the efficiency and stagnant occupancy rates of the city
Thus, the council decided to create 6 commissions. The human resources commission aims to improve training in the hotel industry. A legal, tax and financial commission was also created. Through the third commission dedicated to marketing, sales and communication, the AIH hopes to develop a communication plan adapted to its members. And this, in complementarity with that of the CRT which promotes the destination. A commission dedicated to classification standards and pricing is also planned. The fifth commission is in charge of conciliation. It is made up of a committee of wise people who aim to improve ethics and combat informality in the profession. Finally, the synergy commission, headed by Mr. Chaoui, aims to create a purchasing center in order to obtain better prices from industry partners. Note that the AIH will hold an extraordinary meeting on February 9 to adapt its statutes to the new regional division. It plans to expand to 7 prefectures and provinces in the Marrakech-Safi region and thus recruit new members.
