Event tourism: Russian travel agents prospecting in Marrakech
Prospecting mission for Russian travel agents in Morocco. These professionals specializing in the events segment made a stopover in Marrakech to discover the tourist attractions of Morocco’s leading destination.
The visit which took place from February 1 to 5 in consultation with the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council (CRT) was an opportunity for Russian partners to learn about Marrakech’s tourism offering adapted to the needs of the event. “The growing interest of Russians in the ocher city explains the ongoing negotiations for the launch for the 2017-2018 season of a new direct connection between Moscow and Marrakech with 2 frequencies per week”, we learn from CRT Marrakech.
This connection will be added to around ten frequencies linking Morocco to Russia. Let us cite in this sense three “Moscow-Casa-Agadir” frequencies provided by Royal Air Maroc as well as five charter flights including four serving Moscow to Agadir and one flight linking Saint Petersburg to Agadir. Corail Travel, for its part, provides a charter flight in winter between Moscow and Agadir. Indeed, the development of the airline will further boost arrivals from this emerging market in Morocco. In 2016, the Kingdom welcomed 55,000 Russian tourists. This flow should consolidate in the short term. The objective is to reach 100,000 Russian tourists, relying mainly on targeted promotion and development of air travel. Given its fast-growing economy, the Russian market displays enormous emission potential.
20 million Russians travel abroad annually, representing growth of more than 15% per year. Likewise, these tourists are considered the biggest spenders on travel, with spending approaching $50 billion with annual growth of 10%.
