Final straight before the WTCC in Marrakech!
EVENT From April 7 to 9, the ocher city will host the Marrakech Grand Prix for the eighth consecutive time! This year, the Moroccan event opens the 2017 WTCC World Championship season and, as usual, has some new features in store for us.
First stop of the 2017 WTCC
The greatest drivers in the world came together to vibrate the asphalt of the Moulay Hassan circuit on April 7, 8 and 9 during the 2017 WTCC Afriquia Race of Morocco. This FIA world automobile event (International Automobile Federation) is the largest automobile event in Africa and this year, special attention will be given to it since it opens the 2017 WTCC World Championship season. For three days, all the spotlights will be on the Moulay Hassan circuit. Remember that last year,The Marrakech Grand Prixwas broadcast in more than 110 countries and attracted more than 600 million viewers!
Moroccan pilot Mehdi Bennani, big favorite?
Additional pressure for our national champion Mehdi Bennani, winner of the 2016 WTCC Trophy at the wheel of his Citroën Sébastien Loeb Racing and favorite to win the 2017 FIA world title. In front of his audience, he will be keen to win this race which has eluded him since 2009. Many will therefore have to come to encourage him against the 99 other drivers at the wheel of their supercars.
The general public has a front-row seat
The great particularity of the Moulay Hassan Circuit is that it encircles the paddock. For drivers, this means more curves for more overtaking, but also long, tighter straight lines for more impressive braking. But it is above all the public who benefits since they are positioned at the heart of the show, they don’t miss a beat.
More than a race, the Marrakech Grand Prix is also a gathering for the whole family. This year, we will appreciate the Radical Sports Cars, impressive English racing cars, which will make their very first appearance on the African continent. The most enthusiasts among us will have their first track experience in two-seater Formula 1 or in one of Renault’s RS ranges. As for the others, they will enjoy the entertainment, motorcycle shows, simulators, parades and evenings which also add to the charm of this event.
