Tourism activity has recorded very positive results since November 2016, with double-digit growth for arrivals at border posts of 10.6% in February 2017 and 18.8% for overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments, according to the Ministry of Tourism. Attendance at accommodation establishments, for its part, recorded an increase of 5 points in the occupancy rate, the ministry said in a press release, citing statistics from the Tourism Observatory. The majority of both traditional and emerging markets achieved remarkable performances at the end of February 2017, with a positive impact on the Kingdom’s main tourist destinations, the ministry said.
A notable recovery in traditional markets, such as France (+6%), Spain (+22%), Germany (+19%) and the United Kingdom (+7%) was noted at the end of February.
Emerging markets also recorded substantial performance, with a triple-digit increase (+923%) in the Chinese market, an increase of 82% in Russia, 62% in Japan, 32% in the United States, 20% in Canada and 17% in the African market, noted the ministry.
This tourist flow has had a positive impact on the attendance of classified tourist accommodation establishments (EHTC) since the beginning of this year, since at the end of February, EHTCs showed an increase in terms of overnight stays of 14.8% (+20.2% for non-residents and +4.1% for residents).
