Tourism: Mohamed Sajid lists the emergencies in the Oriental
After Al-Hoceima, it was in Saidia that the tourist operators met. Professionals, elected officials and local officials inquired on Wednesday about the progress of the city’s seaside resort. A visit to the site was on the program and was attended by Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Crafts and the Social Economy.
Mr. Sajid listed in this sense the emergencies at this integrated destination. A need for animation, entertainment and marketing needs to be filled in Saidia. To do this, air connections should be strengthened to this city. Promises have been revealed about this. The supervisory ministry will soon launch national and international airlines to serve both the destination and the Oriental region.
Not far from Saidia, Mohamed Sajid, accompanied by Lamia Boutaleb and Jamila Moussali respectively secretaries of state responsible for tourism and crafts and the social economy, reiterated his commitment to promoting tourism in the region and meeting its challenges. “The Ministry of Tourism will make all necessary efforts to complete the development journey in the Oriental region”, expressed the minister on the sidelines of a meeting in the wilaya of Oujda.
Orchestrated work should be undertaken in this sense, firstly involving investment in the region’s tourism potential. This would, according to Mr. Sajid, promote the local economy and significantly contribute to boosting the economic dynamics of the region. The need is to develop the hotel offer and strengthen the attractiveness of the destination where two structuring projects are emerging, namely the Saidia resort and that of Marchika. Alongside tourism, crafts are a component that should not be neglected in the Oriental region. All the speakers confirmed the role that craftsmanship plays in boosting tourism. Indeed, the Oriental region is full of significant artisanal potential. The cooperative fabric of the region is one of the largest at the national level. An asset on which all stakeholders should capitalize, in particular by engaging in a participatory approach. In addition, the tourism boom in the Oriental region is dependent on the strengthening of the region’s assets.
Despite its many assets, the Oriental region does not always manage to achieve the expected tourist performance. The sector shows rather average progress compared to other regions of Morocco. This observed slowdown has limited the yield of the plans launched and the efforts made to attract tourism investments at the local level. “The initiatives aimed at increasing the tourist potential of the region present us today with the need to take advantage of the achievements, particularly at the level of the tourist resort of Saïdia, and put in place a tourist emergence plan aimed at overcoming the problems posed and focused on the strengthening of air transport, the promotion and territorial marketing and the improvement of the image of the Oriental”,affirms, for his part, Mouad El Jamai, wali of the region of the Oriental.
With regard to the social and solidarity economy, Mr. El Jamai confirmed that it has become a pillar of the local economy as well as a lever for self-employment and the promotion of income-generating activities. Let us remember that the region is today a vast site for socio-economic projects. Let us cite for this purpose: the creation of four craft villages in Oujda, Taourirt, Berkane and Jerrada at a time when other villages are being built in Bouarfa, Ahfir and Sidi Chafi.
