Marrakech hosts the first edition of Green Africa Innovation Booster

The kick-off of the first edition of the “Green Africa Innovation Booster (GreenAIB)” was given on Wednesday in Marrakech in the presence of a host of researchers and experts from 15 countries.

Organized by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (Iresen) in collaboration with KIC InnoEnergy of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, the first edition of the “Green Africa Innovation Booster (GreenAIB)” is intended to be a gathering, exchange and meeting place between start-ups, industrialists and researchers in order to discuss tools and mechanisms to support research and innovation in Africa.

The first edition of GreenAIB which  spanned over two days brought together more than 450 people, who  focused on encouraging the spirit of green creativity as well as the tools and mechanisms to support research and innovation in Africa.  They presented strategies and successful models of innovation from around the world.

For the occasion, an innovation village “Green Tech Village” was set up to provide exhibition spaces and allow more than 100 start-ups, from Africa, Europe, Asia and America, to exhibit their most innovative products-services-processes in the fields of renewable energies, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, smart networks and the African city of the future.

The program for this edition also includes a competition to reward the three most innovative start-ups, the best innovative R&D project as well as the best doctoral theses. 

On the sidelines of this event, Iresen signed two memorandums of understanding to promote scientific and technical exchanges and facilitate the joint implementation of training and research and development projects in the field of renewable energies, these are: Green Africa Innovation Network (GAIN), and the Mediterranean Energy Academy.

Through the signing of these agreements, Iresen is committed to close collaboration with African and European partners in order to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation, to contribute to the mutual development of training, applied research and innovation in the fields of renewable energies.

Remember that the opening ceremony of this event was chaired by Aziz Rabbah, Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, and was attended by several players in the field of innovation on an international scale, notably, Fatoumata Thes, deputy director of the cabinet of the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and the Development of Renewable Energy of Côte d’Ivoire, Elena Bou, director of Innovation of Innoenergy of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology,  Christelle Hazoume, representative of the President of Benin,  Mustapha Bousmina, Chancellor of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology and  Badr Ikken Director General of Iresen.
