Work on the Tangier-Casablanca high-speed line (LGV) project has reached a progress of more than 90%, said Monday in Tangier, the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara.
During a field visit to different sites of the LGV construction project, the minister stressed that the work on this major project is, according to data revealed at the last meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Railway Office (ONCF), more than 90% completed and are being completed on time, with delivery scheduled for June 2018.
In a press statement, the director general of the ONCF, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, said that the first tests of the TGV were carried out last February, with a speed of 160 km/h, noting that the tests at 320 km/h will begin next September on a section of 120 Km.
The first half of 2018 will be devoted to certification tests of the system and its running-in while the commercial commissioning of the project is planned for the summer of 2018, he said.
Regarding the new Tangier station, which is part of the urban requalification project for railway rights-of-way and the master plan for the development of stations and optimization of railway installations, this project aims to support the commissioning of the first LGV in the Kingdom and the absorption of the growing flow of travelers in offering them services that meet quality standards. It is entirely produced by the national company.
With an investment of 360 million dirhams (MDH), this multi-use hub, which has recorded an overall progress of 65%, is made up of different elements, each having a specific morphology and function in order to offer varied services adapted to the different economic challenges of the site.
This station, which is built on a covered area of 10,500 m², includes passenger circulation areas, ticket offices, boarding lounges and shops, as well as 77,000 m² of exterior development.
The minister, who was accompanied by Mr. Khlie, visited the construction site of the new Tangier station, before visiting the Tangier-Moghogha high-speed train maintenance workshop, then the El Hachef viaduct near Larache.
