Marrakech/Tourism: Busy agenda for 2018
The Marrakech E prix, the 4 L Trophy, the international marathon, the Race of Morocco… Marrakech’s events calendar is full for 2018. According to forecasts from the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) and the wilaya, the city should host around forty events this year including professional congresses, sports meetings, festivals and trade fairs.
Enough to rejoice professionals who hope for even more events and mega-congresses like that of the COP. These are all events that generate overnight stays.
The car race organized next April, for example, alone generates thousands of paid hotel nights according to its organizers. It is therefore not for nothing that the city is particularly popular during the month of April. For two years, it is events that have allowed the destination to get back on track. This segment is an important vector for the development of business tourism, but also leisure tourism.
Its potential is significant both internationally and locally. And it is on this segment that the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council wishes to capitalize on for 2018 and plans to implement a specific strategy for the promotion of business and conference tourism.
The tourism activity report in 2017 was characterized by exceptional results exceeding the bar of 2 million in arrivals and 7 million in overnight stays, for the first time in the history of tourism in Marrakech. And in order to consolidate the achievements, or even improve them further, the Marrakech CRT and its partners, the Moroccan National Tourism Office and the municipal and regional councils, plan to focus their actions on the digitalization of means of communication and promotion. Among the priority areas, the conquest of new markets, notably Russian and Chinese, and a specific strategy for nationals. Marrakech has managed to diversify its offer by moving from a single-segment destination to a multi-segment destination including medical tourism.
The know-how of the medical profession established in Marrakech, all specialties combined, no longer needs to be demonstrated, with a very competitive quality/price ratio (-50% compared to Europe and North America), without forgetting the proximity to Europe on the one hand and the African markets and the Middle East on the other. Several clinic projects of international standing have already been carried out in Marrakech and others are in progress.
