
Tourism: 8% increase in arrivals in Morocco at the end of August
The number of foreign tourists (TES) increased by 14%, while arrivals of Moroccans living abroad (MRE) increased by 2%, indicates the Observatory in its statistics on Moroccan tourism for the month of August 2018.
This increase concerned the main source markets, in particular Italy (+14%), Germany (+10%), France (+7%) as well as Holland (+6%), specifies the Observatory.
Concerning total nights recorded in classified tourist accommodation establishments, they increased by 9% at the end of August 2018 (+12% for non-resident tourists and +1% for residents).
The two tourist centers Marrakech and Agadir alone generated 60% of total overnight stays at the end of August, notes the Observatory which notes that these two destinations experienced an increase of 10% and 8%, respectively.
Other destinations also showed good performances, in particular Fez, Rabat and Tangier with increases of 20%, 12% and 9% respectively, adds the same source.
During the month of August 2018, the number of tourist arrivals at border crossings increased by 12% compared to the same month of 2017 (+13% for TES and +11% for MRE), according to the Observatory.
