Improvement of Moroccan tourism
Moroccan tourism figures have looked better since the start of 2018. In one half-year, a total of 5.1 million tourists visited the country for an increase of 10% year-on-year, according to statistics published Thursday by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism.
This improvement is mainly due to a continued increase in the number of European tourists, including 18% Italians, 13% German tourists and 10% French visitors. Another interesting statistic is the return to the cradle of Moroccans living abroad. These increased by 1% between January and June.
And it is the Moroccan economy which is rubbing its hands. Tourism revenues, in fact, reached 3.12 billion US dollars, or 15.2% compared to 2017.
Encouraging prospects which could however be hampered by the troubles in the Moroccan air sector. Since the beginning of July, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) connections to Europe and Africa have remained very disrupted, with flights canceled every day due to social tensions within the Moroccan national airline.
