Agadir: the excessively high bill for a hotel outrages the Web
Never seen before! A bottle of mineral water for 100 DH! Add orange juice (DH80), mint tea (DH50) and espresso (DH50). All for a very hefty bill (see below), unimaginable amounting to 360 hard dirhams!
We wonder if the service is included and if the waiter, Hassan, demanded a “modest” tip of at least 10%.
This takes place in a plush hotel, located on the coast of the city of Agadir, and the client thus cheated, pigeon-holed and plucked is a former great sportsman from Salé. We do not know whether he capitulated without batting an eyelid, knowing him to be a well-educated man and not raising his voice (except when he harangued his teammates to come in defense) or whether, on the contrary, he politely protested and refused to pay.
In any case, this addition set the Moroccan web on fire.
Outrage and anger were vigorously expressed by Internet users. They consider that such hefty additions to Agadir will have the negative effect of driving away tourists, both national and foreign, to other resort locations where less indulgent and more reasonable prices are offered.
Other Internet users go further in their appreciation of this phenomenon of dizzying rise in drink prices. They consider that the tourism sector in Agadir is suffering seriously and is experiencing an alarming regression due to the fact that many tourists prefer to look elsewhere if they are there.
Such exorbitant additions undermine the ambitious Sustainable Tourism Strategy of “Vision 2020”, signed before King Mohammed VI in 2010. And with such excesses, it will not be tomorrow that “the most beautiful country in the world” will receive 20 million tourists by 2020!
Worse, these exorbitant prices encourage even middle-class Moroccans not to spend their vacations in Morocco, despite the beauty of its beaches, its mountains and despite the charms that some of our cities offer in the four corners of the country.
And many families prefer, by far, to go to the Costa del Sol (Spain), the Algarve (southern Portugal), Istanbul (Turkey), among other destinations abroad.
