Morocco, the pearl of North Africa, preferred destination for tourists in 2023
Morocco, the “crown jewel” of North Africa, is now one of the preferred destinations for tourists in 2023, writes the North American specialist site “Travel off path”. In an article by Vinicius Costa, the portal indicates that the Kingdom has established itself as a preferred destination for Western tourists, thanks in particular to “excellent” infrastructure, “breathtaking” natural landscapes and “world-class” urban structures. Stressing that Morocco is experiencing “historic” growth in the tourism sector in 2023, the same source notes, citing statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, that nearly 2.9 million tourists visited the country in the first quarter of the current year, an increase of 17% compared to 2019 and a huge increase of 464% compared to 2022. The portal notes that Western tourists, notably Spanish, British, Italian and American, are returning en masse to Morocco, “attracted by its limitless cultural wealth and its affordable prices”, noting that the opening of the Kingdom to tourism and travel are not the only reasons why the popularity of the Morocco destination continues to grow. Morocco is a country that is distinguished by a cultural heritage and a history that intersects with that of Southern Europe, points out the author of the article, also citing the architectural beauty that distinguishes the old medinas in several Moroccan cities. Marrakech, which claims to be a “magnificent labyrinth” of sandstone buildings, madrassas and cafes bustling with commerce, is one of the most famous cities that have established themselves as economic, cultural and political centers. Other “imperial” cities that tourists should visit upon arriving in Morocco include Fez, which has the world’s largest medina and pedestrianized urban area, and Meknes, which is home to lush Mediterranean-style gardens and a sultan’s mausoleum, according to the portal. It is also the capital Rabat, which is experiencing “astonishing” development. “Travel off Path”, which is one of the independent travel information sites in the world which attracts more than 3 million views per month, also highlighted the natural wealth that distinguishes Morocco, from the coastal line to the desert via the mountainous regions.
