From 2024, Moroccan tourist guides will be able to train in Chinese
Yin Li, member of the political bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), chaired, this Friday in Rabat, a document exchange ceremony with the Mohammed V University with a view to developing the learning of the Chinese language with Moroccan tourist guides. Morocco hopes to reach the milestone of one million Chinese tourists in the coming years, according to the vice-president of the Mohammed V University of Rabat, Ismaïl Kassou, who signed agreements with the president of Peking University, Ji Jinbao. This specific training for Moroccan tourist guides is planned for 2024. The presence in Morocco of Yin Li, who is also secretary of the CPC Central Committee for the municipality of Beijing, illustrates the interest that China places in deepening its linguistic and cultural cooperation with the Kingdom, affirmed the Chinese official, emphasizing the historic nature of this relationship.
At the Confucius Institute for learning the Chinese language in Rabat, Yin Li reiterated the condolences from China to Morocco following the earthquake which struck the regions of Al Haouz and Souss-Massa. He then estimated that “languages bring nations and peoples together”, inviting Moroccan nationals to be “more numerous to speak the Chinese language”.
Ji Jinbao for his part emphasized the role played by the Confucius Institute located in Rabat, Tangier, Casablanca and Agadir. The president of Peking University further indicated that China “has been able to train a total of 11,000 Moroccan students so far.” Note that the Mohammed V University of Rabat was the first in Morocco to host the Confucius Institute as part of a partnership with its counterpart in Beijing. This establishment, currently headed by Farid El Bacha, has been able to train some 2,000 Moroccan students in the Chinese language.
