Dar Maalma expo 2023 is back under the theme “Traditional knowledge of Morocco Empowerment, leadership and promotion of women’s rights”

Dar Maalma expo returns with its 15th edition, richer, more varied and ever more impactful in its advocacy work for the legal and financial empowerment of artisan women in the Kingdom of Morocco. Dar Maalma expo 2023 is planned in Bouknadel – Salé from December 15 to 17, 2023, and has chosen as the theme: “Traditional knowledge of Morocco – Empowerment, leadership and promotion of women’s rights”. It is a special edition in several aspects. It is first of all a solidarity edition which puts the women artisans of Haouz in the spotlight and at the center of the event. It is also a restitution edition of two projects carried out during 2023 by Refam Dar Maalma: Al Karama, which mainly deals with the preservation and transmission of knowledge and Nissae Maghrebiate which works for the respect of women’s rights in the public space. These two initiatives are part of the “Voices and Leadership of Women in Morocco” Project, funded by the Government of Canada and implemented by Oxfam in Morocco in partnership with the National Human Rights Council (CNDH). The culmination of this meeting is the presentation of the study on the preservation and transmission of knowledge held by women. The restitution of this study will be done in a workshop during Dar Maalma expo 2023 on December 15 at 3 p.m. “The study, which is in fact a plea, opted for a participatory approach by involving women who hold the knowledge. She therefore carries the voice of the women artisans of Morocco. It is an invitation to collective reflection to help these thousands of women develop their activities and become part of the local and/or national economic system,” explains Fawzia Talout Meknassi, president of Refam dar Maalma and co-author of the study. 100 women from the twelve regions of Morocco participate in this national mass for women artisans. From embroidery to Chebka, from Caftan to Jewelry, from Carpet to Hanball, from Pottery to Leather, from Bzioui, or Saissi to Tadarrazt, from Basketry to Passementerie, Each product produced by ELLES contains a strong human connection accompanied by an economic dimension and a financial need to satisfy. …. In their diversity, the artisans make up Morocco in its social, cultural, traditional, emotional, spiritual, but above all economic dimensions. Dar Maalma expo is supported by the two historic institutional partners, namely the Oriental Agency and the OCP, with the participation of the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy and the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family.
