This is another Moroccan hotel establishment which has just been awarded a prestigious international prize. The Olinto Atlas Mountain Retreat hotel, located in the Ouirgane valley in the High Atlas, won the Versailles World Prize 2023, in the Hotels category. The jury for the 2023 Versailles Prize was chaired by the famous Lebanese designer Elie Saab, indicates the Jardin Majorelle Foundation, cited by the daily newspaper Today Morocco in its edition of Friday, December 22. Announced every year at UNESCO since 2015, the Versailles Prize is a set of architectural competitions highlighting the most beautiful contemporary achievements at the global level, reports the same source, noting that the criteria adopted by the jury include innovation, creativity, echo of local heritage and ecological efficiency. Inaugurated at the end of 2022, Olinto Atlas Mountain Retreat was born from the imagination of the pioneering hotelier based in Marrakech, Fabrizio Ruspoli. With just nine guest lodges, each with its own private garden surrounded by traditional earthen walls, Olinto is a haven of tranquility in a beautiful mountain setting. The Hotel aims to be an ideal place to explore the local landscapes, culture and traditions. Olinto said he hoped the prestigious award would attract more tourists. “Located at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains, Olinto invites guests to immerse themselves in Moroccan cuisine and crafts during a retreat in one of nine striking pavilions,” writes the famous American magazine Spaces to describe the place. “The hotel is located above the Berber village of Imlil, about an hour from Marrakech, in a largely untouched territory that counts a hunting reserve and the Toubkal National Park as its closest neighbors,” it further reads. Visitors can admire the bucolic landscape from one of Olinto’s nine pavilions, which exude a timeless ambiance thanks to owner Prince Fabrizio Ruspoli di Poggio Suasa. As an added bonus, each pavilion is surrounded by its own private garden and earthen walls, while some feature heated swimming pools decorated by local artists.
