Innovation and tourism investment: A Global Forum in Marrakech for January 2024
The Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering plans to organize, at the end of January 2024 in Marrakech, the first edition of the “Innovation and Tourism Investment Forum”. This international event, in partnership with the World Tourism Organization, is counting on more than 100 Moroccan and foreign decision-makers to promote investment and increase innovation in the sector’s entrepreneurial fabric. The Forum will be notably marked by the launch of an UNWTO innovation program “Digital Futures Program” for the benefit of Moroccan tourism SMEs.
The Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering (SMIT) is joining forces with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the launch in Morocco of a large-scale international event. This is the organization of the first edition of the “Innovation and Tourism Investment Forum”.
Scheduled for January 29 to 30, 2024 in Marrakech, this event will see the participation of more than 100 “high-level” Moroccan and foreign decision-makers, ministers, institutions and investors, as well as representatives of the UNWTO and opinion leaders. It aims to bring together key players in the sector to promote investment and increase innovation in the sector’s entrepreneurial fabric. According to SMIT, the first edition of this forum will be marked by several important events including the selection of the 5 winning finalists of the tourism startup innovation competition and the launch of an UNWTO innovation program “Digital Futures Program” for the benefit of Moroccan tourism SMEs. Remember that at the beginning of the year, the UNWTO and the Department of Tourism and SMIT launched a national competition to find the most innovative startups best suited to the tourism needs of future generations. The competition aims to identify and support startups involved in the recovery and evolution of the tourism sector by developing innovative tourism products. By promoting connections between actors who are part of the ecosystem of tourism entrepreneurship and innovation, the UNWTO and the supervisory ministry aim to generate jobs and new opportunities to restore Moroccan tourism. Furthermore, during the next Forum in Marrakech, the UNWTO plans to present its first Tourism Investment Guide. This publication provides investors with essential elements of analysis, with the objective of increasing foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly through the establishment of new tourism operating models centered on innovation and sustainability. According to SMIT, the first edition of this Forum is a continuation of its actions aimed at promoting tourism investments and supporting the development of SMEs in the sector. “The organization of this major event in Morocco will contribute to the influence of our country on the international scene as well as the development of its tourism assets and its investment opportunities,” underlines the armed arm of the State and the regions in Morocco for tourism investment.
