Tourism: 4 cities in Morocco are popular in the annual Tripadvisor ranking
Four cities in Morocco appear in the annual Tripadvisor rankings, which select the best tourist destinations around the world, according to the expectations of visitors looking for cultural, spiritual and historical or rather natural discoveries. Marrakech is thus one of the best destinations for the year 2024. The ocher city is ranked eighth out of the twenty-five most coveted cities, ahead of Istanbul (12th), Barcelona (14th), Madrid (20th) and New York (25th). According to the platform, Marrakech is “a magical place, full of markets, gardens, palaces and mosques”. It gives one to “explore the intimate courtyards and winding lanes of the historic medina,” find “inner peace at the serene Jardin Majorelle” or appreciate “the beauty of one of the city’s historic mosques.” Dubai is in first place for the third year in a row, ahead of Bali (Indonesia) and London (England). Fez is also ranked fourth among the best cultural destinations in 2024, behind Havana (Cuba), Cuzco (Peru) and Agra (India). “This fortified city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you to medieval times. Visit the ancient labyrinthine neighborhoods of the Fez medina and its four imposing gates, with their distinctive Moroccan tiles,” says Tripadvisor. The palm of gold for nature destination in Morocco goes to Merzouga, ranked 14th out of 25 sites around the world, thanks to its sunsets and dunes. This small village “gives a taste of life in the desert, and hikes to neighboring villages will reward you with African revelry, including music and dance,” writes the platform. Finally, Casablanca is the 23rd of the 25 trendy cities around the world for this year 2024. In a century and a half, this city has grown from a few thousand inhabitants to a metropolis of more than four million, becoming a leading industrial and commercial center. Tripadvisor recommends discovering the medina and the Old Town, following in the footsteps of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Among the must-see places are also the Hassan II mosque, the largest in Morocco, or the piano bars, restaurants and nightclubs. The economic capital is also known for its districts which trace its social and architectural evolution through the centuries and decades, from the city center to Aïn Sebaâ, via Les Habbous. As for its maritime coast, it offers a real breath of fresh air between the historic port, the new Marina and the emblematic Aïn Diab. Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Destinations annually analyzes reviews submitted over the past 12 months by its hundreds of millions of users.
