COM’ESEMaroc: BEI Monde invests 115 million euros for sustainable and attractive technology parks

Follow Eco Life on Telegram During the European Investment Bank (EIB) Forum held on February 7 and 8 in Luxembourg, the EIB and the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG) of Morocco reaffirmed their mutual commitment to sustainable development and climate finance, and celebrated the signing, on December 29, 2023, of a financing contract of 115 million euros (1.3 billion dirhams) for the Technopoles Maroc II project with MEDZ. This financing aims to promote regional economic development and help position Morocco as a low-carbon and competitive industrial base. The EIB loan, via BEI Monde, will enable the sustainable extension and environmental upgrade of ten Technoparks spread across several regions of the Kingdom. The selected parks will house integrated business clusters and industrial platforms with substantial research, development and innovation potential, as well as educational components focused on sustainability. This ambitious project supports the objectives of the Moroccan government, particularly within the framework of the New Development Model and the Industrial Acceleration Plan, aiming to make the Kingdom a benchmark in terms of low-carbon, responsible and sustainable production methods. It also aims to support sustainable economic recovery and reduce regional disparities, in line with the advanced regionalization policy. This project is a continuation of the success of the Technopoles I operation in 2012, which generated around 36,000 jobs, thus demonstrating the quality of the partnership between the CDG and the EIB. It is aligned with the objectives of the European Union, as part of the new agenda for the Mediterranean, particularly in terms of resilience, prosperity, ecological transition, human development, migration and mobility. It will also contribute to the Morocco-EU “Green Partnership” established in October 2022, promoting substantial job creation. “We are proud to strengthen our partnership with the CDG Group. This financing marks a significant step in our fruitful collaboration and demonstrates our shared commitment to sustainable development, economic prosperity and the decarbonization of industry in Morocco,” declared EIB Vice-President Nicola Beer. And added: “This ambitious project will not only contribute to boosting the Moroccan economy through innovation, but also to creating sustainable jobs and reducing regional disparities, while building a greener and more competitive industry.” For his part, the Director General of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), Mr. Kalid Safir, declared: “We are delighted with the strengthening of our partnership with the EIB which has continued to consolidate for several years already. We share the same objectives aimed at the economic and social influence of our Moroccan regions and the reduction of territorial disparities. We have the ambition, as a high-impact player, to step up our intervention as a locomotive in the service of the sustainability of our economy, which is why we will continue to combine our investment and financing efforts alongside major institutions like the EIB with which we share these same values.”
