High-level Moroccan delegation meets tech giants in the United States

The American Commercial Service based at the Consulate General of the United States in Casablanca, in collaboration with the American Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), is organizing, from February 11 to 21, 2024, a business mission for the benefit of a high-level Moroccan delegation focused on digital development and innovation. This visit is part of the partnership between the United States and Morocco, placing robust American technology, a trusted technology, at the service of Morocco’s economic prosperity, thus increasing the Kingdom’s attractiveness in terms of foreign investment. “Morocco is engaged in a digital transformation process of capital strategic importance. As the Kingdom develops its digital e-governance and economy, the US government and private sector are absolutely committed to supporting our friendly country, Morocco, to ensure an exemplary digital transformation using reliable and cutting-edge technology,” said US Ambassador Puneet Talwar. The Moroccan delegation is made up of 15 participants representing the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, ADD, DGSSI, CGEM, AUSIM, Technopark and APEBI. A cutting-edge agenda The participants went first to Austin, Texas, then to the unmissable Silicon Valley. On the menu, around twenty professional meetings with world-renowned American technology companies, as well as with American state institutions who shared their experiences in e-Gov, AI and cybersecurity. “American digital companies are at the forefront of innovation and technology,” said Ms. Sarah Lamrani, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform. By participating in this visit, the delegation “seeks to benefit from their expertise and learn from their best practices to stimulate the growth of the digital sector in Morocco… and to attract investments in the Moroccan digital sector,” she added. The large technology companies, start-ups, and American state institutions participating in its meetings were IBM, Oracle, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Cisco, Capital Factory, Texas Department of Information Resources International Accelerator, Digital Reality, City of San Jose, Juniper Networks, Cobesity, Nividia, Zscaler, Nutanix, Equinix, and Plug&Play. This visit familiarized delegates with the latest US technologies, services, and best practices in data centers, cloud computing, and digital government services. In addition, the visit supports Morocco’s digital transformation efforts, which aim to digitize public sector services, support e-commerce, and create an adequate ecosystem for start-ups. For Ms. Lamrani, the visit also aimed to “explore the possibility of establishing partnerships with American companies to develop and strengthen the digital ecosystem in Morocco. This could include collaborations in the areas of technology, innovation, and skills development. » An ongoing commitment… Several participating American companies, including Microsoft, Oracle and Cisco, maintain long-term relationships with Morocco by investing in the development of the country’s human capital. Taking only the example of last year, more than 75,000 students in Morocco accessed training content offered free of charge by American technology companies. The American commitment to supporting Morocco’s digital transformation is also manifested in the form of professional and academic exchange programs, capacity building programs, B2B opportunities, and technology transfer initiatives. About the U.S. Trade and Development Agency The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) connects the U.S. private sector to digital infrastructure projects in emerging economies. USTDA achieves its mission by funding feasibility studies, technical assistance and pilot projects integrating the innovation and expertise of American companies. The Agency also connects foreign project sponsors with U.S. partners through its trade missions, industry conferences and expert workshops. USTDA is unique among federal agencies: it is mandated by Congress to promote U.S. industry participation in infrastructure projects at the critical early stages, when design choices and technology options are determined and defined.
