The astonishing journey, a solidarity walk from Rennes to Saint-Malo
Around fifty people started the Étonnant voyage solidarity walk. Associations and precarious people will present a book of poetry to the Étonnants Voyageurs festival upon arrival in Saint-Malo
The astonishing journey, civic, solidarity and artistic march to Saint-Malo in eight stages left Rennes this Saturday morning, May 11, 2024.
At the helm, around fifty organizations and communities from the CGT to Secours Catholique, which lends its support barge, via ATD Quart-Monde or the Human Rights League. “The objective is to demand respect for fundamental rights for everyone, French or people of foreign origin, in particular for people in precarious situations,” explains Joëlle Couillandre, volunteer on the Étonnant voyage organizing committee. Right to housing, right to a decent salary, education, health and culture for all. »
The project was born during a writing workshop with precarious people. “This walk is a moment of conviviality and cosmopolitan sharing,” appreciates René Arzel. I already participated two years ago and these memories make me feel good. »
It’s not easy to have access to culture when you live on €500 per month like René. “Through the workshops, I got to know the Comptoirs du doc association and discovered a passion for audiovisual. I am going to make three short films on the Amazing Journey walk. »
The walkers will present a book of poetry of their creation upon their arrival in Saint-Malo on June 18 at the Étonnants Voyageurs literature festival and will meet the poet Yvon le Men. A bus will leave Rennes with families for the final day of celebration in Saint-Malo. It is possible to join the march by carpooling at each stage by registering on etonnantvoyage.org.
