Macron in Morocco: The visit that kept its promises
Expectations were particularly palpable at the mention of the visit of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to Morocco, in particular among observers who anticipated that this event would resonate important echoes within the two countries, opening the way to mutually beneficial investments. This anticipation actually materialized with the signing of 22 bilateral agreements. The French President, Emmanuel Macron, began a state visit to Morocco this Monday, October 28, 2024, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI, during which several agreements in various key sectors were signed. For Abbas El Ouardi, professor of public law at the FSJES in Rabat and director general of the African Journal of Political Sciences, the visit of the President of the French Republic presents itself as a strategic platform for understanding between these two partner nations. “This partnership, anchored in traditional and historical foundations, is based on reciprocal respect which strengthens bilateral ties,” he explained to Hespress FR. And to underline: “This event promises to be rich in spin-offs, particularly on the investment front. It constitutes a timely opportunity for officials from both countries to engage in frank discussions, orchestrated under the aegis of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and, of course, President Emmanuel Macron. The analyst thus affirmed that the cooperation agreements are sealed with the aim of boosting investment cooperation and strengthening the bilateral economic partnership which is based on the principles of trust, mutual respect and shared benefit. It should be noted that 22 bilateral agreements and agreements were signed on the sidelines of this visit, relating among others to rail transport, green hydrogen (TotalEnergies), water, the port sector (CMA CGM), education and even civil protection, in addition to the industrial, agricultural, forestry and cultural fields.
