1st edition of the Morocco Tourism Awards: ONMT and Essaouira among the winners

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), through its director general, Adel El Fakir, received a trophy of merit on the occasion of the first edition of the Morocco Tourism Awards, an event which awarded a dozen prizes, including one to the city of Essaouira for having developed national tourism in 2023.

The two prizes were awarded respectively to Adel El Fakir and to André Azoulay, advisor to the King, originally of Essaouira, “city of culture and civilization of the Kingdom of Morocco”, Tuesday January 16 during a ceremony organized in a large palace in Salé. This first edition of the Morocco Tourism Awards was organized in partnership with the media, in particular Tourisme Post, headed by Ahlam Jebbar. The latter also explained that this event aims to “boost the sector at the national and international level”.

Adel El Fakir thanked tourism professionals for having placed their trust in the ONMT by expressing the desire of the office to “spare no effort in 2024 to boost tourism by highlighting its assets and riches”. The organizers congratulated him for “having toured the world in 2023 to promote tourism in Morocco”.

André Azoulay, for his part, promised a series of cultural activities which will be organized in 2024 in Essaouira, a city which has experienced a tourist boom through its millennial culture. “Essaouira is currently organizing a total of 11 festivals,” said the King’s advisor for Le360, announcing an upcoming air connection between Tangier and Essaouira. Among the other winners of the 1st Morocco Tourism Awards are Omar Kabbaj (Honorary Prize), the Hivernage hotel group, the president of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima Regional Tourism Council, Rkia Alaoui, Atlas Voyages (Best travel agency), the Taghazout Bay Development Company for its involvement in ecological tourism or even Naït Othman, president of Travel Link Morocco, based in Marrakech.
