AGADIR: 22,500 EUROS FOR AN IRISH TOURIST
After a fortuitous accident involving an Irish tourist, which occurred four years ago, in a hotel in Agadir, an Irish court has just awarded the plaintiff compensation of 22,500 euros. Beyond this judgment, the reputation of the hotel establishment has received a serious blow.
The accident occurred in July 2013 in a hotel in the seaside resort of Agadir, but its repercussions are beginning to be perceptible, particularly on the web. Several Irish newspapers reported last week information according to which a judge has just ruled in favor of an Irish tourist, regarding an accident which occurred more than four years ago in a four-star tourist establishment. Accompanied by her mother, Sienna Buckley, currently 6 years old, according to her family, fell on a ramp near the reception of this hotel, located on the seafront, and injured her chin.
However, it is not the accident, of a fortuitous nature in itself, that poses a problem, but the indictment filed in court. The latter blames the hotel staff for their negligence since the girl’s wound became inflamed. This forced her to take, after her return, an antibiotic to treat the infection, again according to the mother’s statements. But, beyond the circumstances of this accident, the destination Agadir received a hard blow because of the media fallout following the publications of certain newspapers such as “the Irish Herald”, “the Irish Independent” and “the Irish Sun”. That said, the Irish judge’s verdict concerns financial compensation set at 22,500 euros which must be paid to the girl’s parents by the TO (Sunway Travel Limited and Linevana Limited who represent John Cassidy Travel).
However, the Moroccan hotel establishment was not informed of this judgment. According to Moroccan professionals, in this matter it is not the hotel to pay, but the TO which has, moreover, suspended its activities in winter in Agadir. However, this TO can turn against the hotel for the payment of this hefty bill, and this according to the terms of the contract signed between the two parties… Today, the notoriety of this establishment and its brand image have been impacted by this incident. To be continued.
