The National Confederation of Tourism held yesterday in Casablanca, the 1st session of its Board of Directors which aimed to debate questions related to the Governance of the Confederation and the situation of the sector.

The members of the Council expressed their concern about the situation in the sector and the lack of responsiveness of the bodies signing the Vision 2020 program contract.

This sector which employs more than 500,000 people, which generates nearly 8% of GDP and which is among the leading providers of foreign exchange and investments, is no longer one of the government’s priorities and finds itself left to its own devices, in a particularly difficult international situation.

This lack of interest in the sector leads to a total demobilization of professionals which may in the medium term lead to partial layoffs in all sectors of tourism activity. The administrators wanted to sound a real alarm about the risks of this situation and their individual and collective capacities to curb the crisis.

The Board of Directors also deplored the headlong rush of certain members, which was characterized by their lack of involvement both on a human and financial level in the various actions and decision-making processes put in place by the CNT to meet its commitments in a responsible manner.

In this context, the members of the Council confirmed the need for in-depth work on the internal organization of the CNT, which is based on its two pillars which are the professions and the regions.

A new organization will be presented to the Board of Directors which will meet on February 12, 2016 in Marrakech so that it can be ratified by the next General Assembly.

The CNT calls for the mobilization of all, to enable the profession to realize the opportunities offered to our country thanks to its historical potential and its stability.
