Tourism: Morocco ranked 3rd in Africa
TOURISM – Morocco preserves its tourist attractiveness despite an unfavorable economic situation. Although it lost three places compared to 2015, it occupies a relatively comfortable place in the new report from the World Economic Forum in Davos (WEF). Out of 136 countries, Morocco ranks 65th (62nd in 2015).
On a continental scale, the kingdom is positioned in the Top 10 of the most competitive African destinations, and is part of the top three, rising to the third step of the podium behind South Africa and the Republic of Mauritius. Morocco is also ahead of Tunisia (87th) and Algeria (136th). This is not surprising given the insecurity that reigns in several countries in the region. The report also places Morocco 20th among the safest destinations in the world.
Quality is lacking
And if Morocco has managed to preserve its tourist attractiveness, the quantitative indicators nevertheless leave something to be desired. Based on 16 criteria including security, infrastructure, cultural resources and health, the report mainly highlights failures in hygiene. On this point, Morocco comes 99th out of 136 countries. The weakness of the tourist infrastructure is also glaring since Morocco is ranked 80th. The report also criticizes the low quality of human resources. Natural resources (47th rank), business travel and cultural resources (41st rank), as well as the priority given to travel and tourism (35th rank) are doing well.
