The railway equipment of the Tangier-Casablanca LGV
The National Railway Office (ONCF) has published the fifth episode of its web series “LGV Tangier-Casablanca, at the heart of a titanic project”. After detailing the ecological aspect of the project in the previous episode, the ONCF this time presents the part relating to railway equipment.
Once the installation of the communication cables, catenary poles and electrical cables has been completed, and the civil engineering works have been completed, it is in fact the railway equipment that must be put in place.
« Railway equipment comes into play as the platforms are handed over by civil engineering », explains in this episodeFarah El Houssine, head of the railway equipment department.
800 kilometers of rails
No less than 1.6 million tonnes of ballast, 7,400 catenary poles, 700,000 sleepers, two electrical substations, two work bases and 800 kilometers of rail are affected by the operation. Also, 1,500 people were mobilized to successfully carry out this phase. The Tangier-Casablanca LGV continues to break records.
The Moroccan high-speed line, the operation of which is the subject of a partnership between SNCF and ONCF, will be delivered in the first half of 2018.
The project mobilizes a budget estimated at 20 billion dirhams. It should initially allow travelers to connect Tangier to Casablanca, 350 kilometers apart, in 2 hours 10 minutes compared to 4 hours 45 minutes today.
