Morocco-Malaysia: An agreement for partial visa exemption
Morocco and Malaysia signed an agreement on partial visa exemption on Wednesday, announced the Moroccan embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
The agreement must « allow citizens of the two countries who hold a passport to enter, exit or transit through the territory of the other country, without a visa, for the purposes of official or social visits for a period of stay not exceeding ninety (90) days », specifies the Malaysian embassy in Morocco in a press release.
The agreement was initialed by the Moroccan ambassador to Malaysia, Mohammed Réda Benkhaldoun, and the secretary general of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ramlan Ibrahim. It comes to the end of a long process of negotiations with a view to strengthening relations between the two countries on the various political, economic, tourist and cultural levels.
« This visa exemption aims to strengthen cooperation and friendship with the countries of Southeast Asia and with Malaysia in particular », underlined the Moroccan embassy in a press release. The agreement should help promote trade, promote investments between the two countries and increase the flow of Malaysian tourists to Morocco.
It will come into force after the exchange of documents between the two countries and the completion of the necessary legal procedures.
According to the Moroccan embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in 2016 the kingdom granted more than 3,000 visas to Malaysian citizens wishing to stay in Morocco. In terms of education, 65 Malaysian students benefited from scholarships offered by the Moroccan government.
