ONMT: Morocco hopes to welcome 60,000 Brazilian tourists by the end of 2018
Morocco hopes to welcome nearly 60,000 Brazilian tourists by the end of 2018, said the director of the delegation of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) in Portugal, in charge of the Brazilian market, Mr. Abdellatif Achachi.
“We expect to welcome almost 60,000 Brazilian tourists this year. Last year, Morocco recorded 45,000 arrivals of Brazilian tourists, which represents an increase of 36% compared to 2016, or 200,000 nights,” he declared in an interview with MAP, on the occasion of Morocco Week being held in Sao Paulo.
The event organized by the ONMT at the Conjunto Nacional shopping center, which attracts up to 50,000 visitors daily, made it possible to meet as many Brazilians as possible to offer them a taste of a multifaceted, millennia-old culture.
The number of Brazilian tourists who visited Morocco during the first two months of 2018 increased by 38% compared to that recorded during the same period in 2017, said Mr. Achachi.
“For the first two months of the year the statistics are excellent,” he rejoiced, seeing this as an indication of the increase in interest among Brazilian tourists in Moroccan tourist products.
In the opinion of the Moroccan official, the circuit of the imperial cities, that of the thousand Casbahs, as well as stays in the desert, mainly in Arfoud, Zagora and Ouarzazate, are the main products which have attracted Brazilian tourists.
Attributing these good results to the strengthening of the air connection between Brazil and Morocco, Mr. Achachi indicated that the two countries are connected by daily flights, with four departures from Sao Paulo and three others from Rio de Janeiro.
Moreover, the introduction, in 2016, of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner by the national carrier Royal Air Maroc has promoted exponential growth in the number of arrivals, welcomed the head of the ONMT, specifying that the number of arrivals almost doubled between 2014 and 2017, going from nearly 20,000 arrivals to 45,000.
Mr. Achachi did not fail to highlight the actions to promote the Morocco destination based on communication and the promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of the Kingdom, emphasizing, to this end, that the online training platform on Moroccan tourism made available by the ONMT to Brazilian tourism professionals, from October 24 to December 31, was « a great success » given the number of participants which exceeded 6,000 registered, against initial expectations of 2,000 participants.
