Souss Massa is home to “Wilca Week”

The Souss Massa region hosts, from October 27 to November 1, an event called the “Week for Internationalizing Local Cultures & Arts Wilca” intended to promote the hinterland and cultural exchange.

“This is a cultural and artistic circuit aimed at both the promotion of the hinterland of the Souss-Massa region and the cultural exchange between traditional rural musical troupes and global troupes,” indicate the organizers in a press release.

The event is jointly initiated by the Rural Tourism Development Network (RDTR) and the African Research Center for Innovation and Development (ARCID) in collaboration with the National School of Commerce and Management of Agadir.

“Wilca is an original concept inspired by the artistic activities of the ambassador of Moroccan culture in the United States, Fattah Abbou, co-founder of the Aza troupe. This event is designed to integrate other facets of the region’s rural cultural and artistic heritage with a view to internationalizing them,” adds the same source.

American tourists will participate in a cultural tour covering three territorial zones of the region: the prefecture of Agadir-Ida Ouatanane, and the provinces of Tata and Taroudant.

For its initiators, the event also intends to contribute to the valorization of Moroccan intangible heritage, particularly that of the region through several axes relating to the capitalization and internationalization of local cultures and arts, the valorization of the cultural and artistic heritage of the region, the promotion of rural tourist destinations and the emergence of cultural tourism, the exploration of the tourist potential of the hinterland and the identification of a new category of tourist circuits: music, dance.
