
Business tourism: Morocco in the African top 5
Morocco is one of the five best destinations for business tourism in Africa, according to the latest annual report from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) published on May 15, on the eve of the IMEX Frankfurt trade fair, the latest edition of its world ranking on business tourism. Entitled “ICCA’s Country and City Rankings for 2023,” the report ranks countries and cities around the world based on the international events they hosted over the past year. We learn that Morocco ranked as the 5th best business tourism destination in Africa by hosting 26 international events. The Kingdom, which also ranks 62nd in the world, is ahead of the continent by South Africa with 98 international events hosted, Rwanda (32), Kenya (29), and Egypt (28).
Also in terms of conference cities, Morocco is represented by Marrakech. The ocher city, which also successfully organized the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund from October 9 to 15, 2023, with some 14,000 participants, shares joint 6th place among the best conference cities in Africa with the Ghanaian capital Accra. With 16 events organized, it ranks 143rd in the world.
According to the report, with 3,535 international meetings organized, Africa has proven its potential as a business tourism destination. Countries such as Morocco, South Africa and Rwanda are particularly highlighted for their “significant progress in the development of their business tourism sector”.
