Travel to Morocco: what are the entry formalities?
After a winter marked by more than two months of closed airspace, French travelers are returning to Morocco. Over the months, the health protocol and entry conditions should become more flexible. Thus, the mandatory screening test for vaccinated travelers could soon be removed.
What are the entry conditions linked to Covid?
For the moment, entry into Moroccan territory requires presentation of a recognized vaccination pass – such as the European vaccination pass. In addition, from the age of 6, travelers must show the negative result of a PCR test taken less than 48 hours before boarding.
On site, other tests may be requested, randomly: an antigen test on arrival at an airport, a random PCR test, an additional test on D+48 hours at the hotel or in the travelers’ place of residence.
A person testing positive, without medical complications, will have to observe confinement in their place of residence. For positive visitors with strong symptoms, transfer to hospital is necessary.
Note: children under 6 years old are exempt from vaccination passes and PCR tests, adds the Quai d’Orsay.
Passport/ID card/visa
In terms of identity document, a valid passport is mandatory. On the other hand, a visa is not necessary for a stay of less than or equal to three months. The national identity card is not enough, warns the Quai d’Orsay.
Other information to remember: foreign nationals who are not residents of Morocco must have, upon arrival at their destination, their return ticket and proof of sufficient means of subsistence during their stay.
If a child is traveling with his parents, it is better to bring a document proving parentage – copy of the birth certificate or family record book – and authorization from the father if the child is traveling only with his mother. In the event of divorce of the parents, the person accompanying the child must also have a copy of the divorce judgment granting custody.
Vaccination pass on site
The state of health emergency has been extended until April 30, 2022 inclusive, recalls the French Embassy in Morocco.
Since October 21, 2021, the presentation of a vaccination pass is required to travel between prefectures and provinces but also to access public administrations. The same applies to private establishments: hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, hammams, etc.
In addition, wearing a mask remains compulsory throughout the kingdom.
Morocco, a green country
Since mid-February 2022, Morocco has been one of the “green” countries on the map established by the French government. In other words, in this destination, the virus is not actively circulating according to Paris.
From Morocco to France, no compelling reason is required. Before boarding, unvaccinated people will have to take a Covid test or present a certificate of recovery.
