
Agadir: Increase of 5.6% in arrivals and 10.9% in overnight stays in September
The nationals continue to boost the destination
According to figures published by the Agadir Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council (CRT) during the month of September, classified hotels in Agadir recorded an increase in arrivals of 5.6% and 10.9% in overnight stays compared to the same month of 2016.
The number of tourists received reached 90,115 compared to 85,343 during the same period of 2016 and overnight stays increased from 386,116 to 428,040 in September 2017, a gain of 41,924 overnight stays.
This increase is explained by the increases in the national market which recorded growth of 8.6% (2,768 customers), the French market with a small increase of 1% (110 customers), the German market with +30.5% (2,464), the English market with +1.2% (88 customers), and the Polish market with a recovery of +29.5%, or 909 additional Polish tourists.
The average occupancy rate in classified hotels in Agadir during this month recorded an increase of 12.65%. It went from 52.13% in 2016 to 58.72% in September 2017.
The same source underlines that 31 hotel establishments (5*, 4*, 3*, 1*, 1st category VVT, and 2nd category residence), with a capacity of 15,247 beds, achieved an average occupancy rate of 77.87%. While 30 establishments (5*, 4*, 3*, 2*, 2nd category VVT, 1st, 2nd and 3rd category residences) with a capacity of 7,215 beds, had 43.23% occupancy and 30 other hotel establishments (5*, 3*, 2*, 1* and 1st, 2nd and 3rd category residences) of 6,653 beds recorded a weighted average rate of 18.54%.
The accumulation of the first 9 months of the year confirms this upward trend in attendance at classified hotels with an increase in arrivals of 9 and 12% in overnight stays. Thus, the number of arrivals increased from 699,287 in 2016 to 761,800 at the end of September 2017 and overnight stays from 3,262,607 to 3,639,356.
The national market is still placed in 1st position with 295,014 visitors and an increase rate of 4.24%. The French market continues its progression and is positioned in 2nd place with +15.26%, i.e. a volume of 108,655 tourists while the German market is in 3rd position with an increase of 51% in arrivals, 61% in overnight stays and an overall volume of 91,585 customers.
Remember that the launch of the new air connection of the company Air Arabia, which will ultimately have more than 149,000 additional seats, should boost tourist arrivals to the destination of Agadir.
