Tourism: Marhaba 2022 to boost the summer season
The Marhaba welcome operation, a Grand Royal Gesture, is back in force this year with new facilitation and extension measures and will energize the summer season.
The arrivals of Moroccans living abroad (MRE) can only boost tourist activity which already looks promising with the resumption of maritime traffic between Morocco and Spain and the easing of access conditions to the national territory.
Thus, it is with joy that Moroccans from the diaspora flock to return to their motherland and spend their holidays surrounded by their family and friends, especially with the advent of the Aid Al Adha festival during the month of July.
After two years of border closures due to the Covid19 pandemic, MREs can take full advantage of the assets that Morocco has to offer, a tourist destination par excellence, starting with its climate, one of the best on the planet, its diversified natural resources (beaches, desert, mountains, etc.), including a range of places of attraction and monuments to visit.
Spending vacations in Morocco means, for Moroccans around the world, consolidating the strong and historical ties they maintain with their motherland and living an enriching tourist experience that satisfies all tastes, thanks to the diversity of activities offered: cultural, relaxation or entertainment.
To make this initiative a success, which reflects the High and Benevolent Concern with which His Majesty surrounds the Moroccan community living abroad, the Mohammed VI Foundation, in coordination with government stakeholders, authorities and other stakeholders, is mobilizing hard to assist MREs and support them in their return to Morocco.
In this wake, the Department of Transport is working in concert with all parties concerned by the “Marhaba” operation to ensure sufficient supply in terms of maritime, air and international transport, in terms of diversification of lines and number of trips, by ensuring support for transport companies and granting them the necessary authorizations.
In addition, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has strengthened its flight program for the 2022 summer season, by offering 6 million seats on 80 air routes across four continents.
RAM has re-established air routes that were closed during the health crisis and opened new lines, noting that this program will cover nearly 90% of the network covered by the national company in 2019.
Taking into account the particularity of the travel of Moroccans around the world who prefer to travel with family, a set of offers and facilities have been put in place to respond to their request for a standard and durable product with a price very suitable for families residing abroad, allowing a reduction of 20% of the overall price. In addition, this product has been enhanced by flexible measures during the stages of the journey.
And to recall that the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) launched in 2021 a communication campaign dedicated to members of the Moroccan community residing abroad under the umbrella of its new brand “Ntla9awfbladna”.
This campaign aims in particular to consolidate the Kingdom as a preferred destination for MREs, while encouraging them to explore and discover more of all the riches of their country.
According to figures from the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), tourism revenue increased, in one year, by 123.3% at the end of the first four months of 2022.
Operation Marhaba 2022 coupled with the easing of travel restrictions, and government measures aimed at supporting and relaunching activity in the sector, should reinforce this increase during the summer season.
