A first for a Moroccan woman: Amina Bouayach receives the North-South prize from the Council of Europe

This was announced on January 16, 2024 by the North-South center under the Council of Europe, cited in a press release by the National Human Rights Council (CNDH). The president of the CNDH was therefore selected for her work in favor of human rights, gender equality and the prevention of torture at the national level and on the African continent, indicates the same source. As such, the jury praised Ms. Bouayach’s political commitment to the abolition of the death penalty and her efforts to strengthen the structures of civil society in the Mediterranean region as well as North-South cooperation based on shared democratic values. Note that Amina Bouayach is the first Moroccan woman and the third Moroccan personality to have received this prize after Abderrahman El Youssoufi.
