
Participation of Moroccan Nezar Ballil in the world powerlifting championships, May 26 in the United States
Moroccan champion Nezar Ballil takes part in the world powerlifting championships, in the bench press event (105 kg), scheduled for May 26 in Houston in the United States. Ballil was a bronze medalist in bench press at the world championships held last year in Sun City, South Africa, after lifting 190 kg, signing the first Arab and African feat in this discipline. The Moroccan athlete, African champion in 2013, 2019, 2020 and 2022, is taking part in this edition which will see the participation of 1,200 athletes representing 51 countries, with the ambition to represent Morocco with dignity. This is Ballil’s fifth participation in the powerlifting world championships, after Canada-2018 (7th place), Japan-2019 (9th place), Sweden-2021 (bronze medal), then South Africa-2023 (bronze medal). to specialize in the bench press, despite the presence of international champions who hold records and numerous titles. In a statement to MAP, Nezar Ballil stressed that he began intense preparations for this international meeting, after his recovery from the injury contracted in South Africa and a ten-month break, emphasizing the support of the Moroccan Union of Athletic Strength and Sports Armwrestling to overcome his injury and return to training. Ballil explained that he started his training program several weeks ago under the leadership of the national coach, Hamid Jamal and after the favorable agreement of his medical staff in Morocco and Spain. He estimated that the competition will be tough at the next Worlds, affirming his ambition to win a medal to raise the national colors high. Powerlifting is a strength sport that involves lifting bars. It stands out for its technically more basic movements, where the loads are heavier and the amplitude is smaller.
