Morocco: Regragui announces new arrivals
While the Morocco team is in full renewal, coach Walid Regragui has promised new reinforcements. Showered by disillusionment at CAN 2023 (elimination in the round of 16 as favorite), Morocco came back stronger. On the field, the Atlas Lions flew through the CAN 2025 qualifiers which they will host, with six victories in as many matches, and 26 goals scored, the best total of the campaign. This, thanks to the significant contribution of dual nationals like Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid) or Eliesse Ben Seghir (Monaco), who succumbed to the exponential attractiveness of the fourth place finishers in the last 2022 World Cup. A phenomenon which is only the fruit of the actions of the Federation (FRMF) and its ambitious president Fouzi Lekjaa, himself supported by King Mohammed VI. While the Atlas Lions aspire to win the next CAN on their soil (December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026), like Ivory Coast in Abidjan last February, the team will continue to improve qualitatively, as announced by coach Walid Regragui. While on the Canal+ microphone for the show Talents d’Afrique, the technician informed of the arrival of future reinforcements. “A few players will still join us” “I wasn’t worried even after the Africa Cup, I’m not euphoric now (after the qualifying performance, editor’s note). I know that there is work, that we are expected, and that after this World Cup (2022, editor’s note) it will always be more difficult with each match. We are demanding with Morocco and we are right to be so because we have talent. (…) I know very well what we are capable of doing, but also that we still have some flaws. It will be filled with a few players who will still join us,” he declared. “There will be strong competition, I will have to know how to manage this locker room,” he added. Between the potential arrivals of Amine El Ouazzani (Braga) courted by Algeria, or Zakaria El Ouahdi (Genk), coveted by Belgium, and not closing any doors for the moment.
