The Ministry of the Interior relieves the governors of Marrakech-Safi and Fez-Meknes of their functions

Berkach Abdelaziz

The repercussions of the incident of the slaughter of the Eid sacrifice in the headquarters of the Fez-Meknes region are still at the forefront of the administrative scene of the Ministry of the Interior.

The authorities decided to officially relieve the governor of the region, Maad Jama’i, from his duties and appoint Abdul Ghani Al-Sabbar, governor of the Meknes region, governor by interim to manage the affairs of the state of Fez-Meknes.

In the same context, the governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, Farid Chouraq, was relieved after killing the Eid ram in the Agdal Sidi Amara prayer hall.

The governor of the province of Al Haouz, Rachid Benchikhi, was tasked with temporarily managing the affairs of the state, pending an official decision from the Ministry of the Interior. These events follow the great controversy sparked by the massacre scenes, and the resulting widespread criticism and calls for accountability, as many saw it as an attack on the prestige of administrative institutions.

The Interior Ministry is expected to announce official appointments in the coming days, as part of a move that also concerns several senior positions in the territorial administration.
