
Mr. Hammouchi awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Spanish Civil Guard

The Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, decorated this Tuesday in Madrid the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, with the « Grand Cross of Merit of the Civil Guard. This is the highest distinction awarded by this Spanish security institution to foreign personalities.
The Spanish Minister of the Interior stressed that this distinction is a recognition by the Spanish authorities of the exceptional role of Mr. Hammouchi in strengthening the security partnership between Morocco and Spain. He praised its continued efforts to boost mutual operational cooperation aimed at neutralizing threats to the security of the two countries.
Mr. Grande-Marlaska also paid tribute to the modernization of Moroccan security apparatuses, setting them up as an international model in the fight against terrorism and organized crime. The ceremony was also an opportunity to express Spain’s commitment to working with Morocco to ensure the success of the 2030 World Cup.
Following the decoration, the two parties held bilateral talks on mechanisms for strengthening joint operations to counter terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking and illegal immigration. This high Spanish distinction is in addition to other international recognitions received by Mr. Hammouchi, including French decorations, the Prince Nayef First Class Arab Security Prize, as well as the Wissam du Trône (Officer rank) in 2011.
