
Marrakech hosts an international conference on “climate links” to strengthen Moroccan-British cooperation in research and skills

In the Ourika room of the Savoy hotel in Marrakech, the work of a high-level international conference was held on the morning of Thursday, December 4, 2025, organized by the British Council under the theme: “Climate links: Moroccan-British cooperation in the field of skills and scientific research”. More than 70 managers and experts from universities, research and professional training centers in Morocco and the United Kingdom took part.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Morocco, Alex Benfield, as well as Alexandra Plevrij, director of the British Council in Morocco.
It was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, in addition to representatives of Moroccan and British universities and scientific institutions active in the fields of research and the green transition.
The opening session, launched around nine a.m., highlighted the importance of strengthening academic and scientific partnerships between the two countries. The discussions continued until ten o’clock.
The conference focused its work on the role of academic and scientific cooperation in supporting Morocco in its transition to a green economy and in strengthening its capacities in the face of climate change, the effects of which are intensifying on a global scale.
The speakers also explored practical ways to develop green skills and exchange expertise in the fields of innovation, renewable energies and scientific research oriented towards environmental protection.
The axes of the conference were articulated as follows:
Updating higher education and professional training programs in order to meet the needs of the green job market.
Support for joint scientific research projects between Moroccan and British universities.
The development of skills of researchers and students in the fields of sustainable development and clean energy.
The organizers stressed that this conference is part of a series of programs led by the British Council, aimed at strengthening the bridges of academic cooperation between the two countries, Morocco being considered a key partner in climate issues and renewable energies at the regional level. This meeting was an opportunity to exchange successful experiences between the two parties and to consolidate future projects intended to support green skills and provide young generations with innovation tools, in harmony with Morocco’s national orientations in terms of sustainability and with the United Kingdom’s commitment to international climate partnership.
