General mobilization in the province of Al Haouz in the face of exceptional bad weather
BERKACH
The various municipalities of the province of Al Haouz are currently experiencing a state of mobilization on the ground, led by the local authorities in coordination with the Equipment services and the Regional Multiservices Company, in order to cope with the impacts of the wave of violent winds as well as heavy rain and snow precipitation that the region has been experiencing since last Friday.
Intervention teams, supported by heavy equipment, managed to restore the flow of traffic on several vital routes paralyzed by snow and rockslides. Among these axes, traffic was secured on national road No. 9 linking Marrakech to Ouarzazate, following snow clearing operations.
Efforts are also continuing to clear mountain tracks in the communes of “Ankil”, “Touama”, “Setti Fatma”, “Oukaimeden”, “Zerkten” and “Imgdal”, clogged with mud and fallen trees. In terms of energy infrastructure, technical teams from the Société Régionale Multiservices (Marrakech–Safi) are continuing major operations to repair damage caused to poles and electrical lines by violent winds.
These interventions have enabled the restoration of electricity in dozens of douars having suffered intermittent outages, while field work continues to reach the areas remaining.
As part of the preventive measures taken by the provincial monitoring commission, it was decided to temporarily suspend classes in several educational establishments located in mountainous areas difficult to access, as a precautionary measure aimed at guaranteeing the safety of students and educational staff.
In addition, the authorities have intensified awareness campaigns for the benefit populations bordering rivers and wadis, calling on them to exercise the greatest vigilance in the face of the risk of flash floods.
The monitoring commissions remain in permanent meetings and in total mobilization, making available all human and logistical resources to protect lives and property, and open up the affected areas, in this exceptional climatic context.
