Taekwondo: Fatima Ezzahra Aboufaras qualified for the Paris-2024 Olympics

The Moroccan taekwondo player, Fatima Ezzahra Aboufaras (+67), won her ticket for the Olympic Games (Paris-2024) on Saturday, by distinguishing herself during the African Tournament of the discipline, which takes place at the Dakar Arena sports complex in Diamniadio from February 9 to 11.

The former champion of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2018 in Buenos Aires beat the Guinean, Ayong Veronica in the final by two sets to zero (2-0). As for his compatriot Soufiane Elasbi (-80kg), he was eliminated by the Burkinabé, Faysal Sawadogo, (0-2). On Friday, three Moroccans, among six participants, qualified for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. These are Ayoub Adouich (-63 kg), Rachid Ismaili Alaoui (-80 kg) and Rajae Akermach (+65 kg). A total of 44 disabled athletes representing 13 countries took part on the first day of this tournament. Ayoub Adouich beat the Senegalese Fam Diene by 20 to 10, while his compatriot Rachid Ismaili Alaoui took over the champion of Mali, Samake Adama (30-25). As for Rajae Akermache, she defeated the Ghanaian champion, Keyrema Patricia (16-2) in the final. The other Moroccan athletes, Naoual Laaarif (-47 kg), Rahma Rboh (-65 kg) and Zakaria Nejjari (-58 kg) were unable to win in the final against their opponents, respectively the Cameroonian Guileine Chemogne (14-16), the Cameroonian Dassi Marie (5-25) and the Nigerian Djavirou Omar. Nejjari was eliminated for a technical foul following a header, although he was the winner by 10 to 2. The tournament continues this Sunday with the elimination phases of the Olympic category in which two other Moroccans are engaged, namely Nadia Laaraj (-57 kg) and Ayoub Bassel (+80 kg).
