Marrakech has new sports parks

Good news for the Marrakchis. The Urban Municipality of Marrakech has just completed work on three new generation, ecological sports parks in several districts of the ocher city. These are sports and relaxation structures covering several hectares intended to encourage the practice of local sport.

The result of a partnership between the Urban Municipality of Marrakech and the INDH, these projects mobilized an overall investment envelope of around 46 million DH. They offer the city local spaces combining sport and leisure and filling a deficit in this area.

These parks include several sports facilities (multi-sports fields, mini-football fields, a fitness trail, etc.) and leisure facilities (open-air theater and garden). Laid out on 5 hectares of land, the first park is in Sidi Youssef Ben Ali and also includes an indoor sports hall.

The second park is in Hay Hassani on an area of 3 hectares with sports fields, cross-country and athletics circuits for an investment of 14 million DH. Finally, the third is being completed in the El Izdihar district at the entrance to Marrakech (next to Marjane). Here, the work took a little longer due to the difficulties encountered in the development, the site being on a mountainous terrain.

The eponymous park includes a children’s garden, green spaces, sports fields, weight training areas as well as two football fields with artificial turf. In the second phase, the Municipality plans the construction of an observatory and catering facilities in this park. A fourth park has been budgeted and will be developed in Al Azzouzia.

If the gardens and theaters of these sites will be open to the general public, the sports infrastructures will be intended for the city’s associations. Each of them will have to make a request to the city or to a possible manager to appear on the schedule, and thus benefit from time slots, depending on their activity and the desired land.

Indeed, the city does not rule out the possibility of entrusting all of these parks to a private manager by duplicating the example of the Arsat Moulay Abdessalam gardens entrusted to Maroc Telecom and which were a success. In the meantime, the new sports parks in Marrakech are ready (or almost) and should be inaugurated in the following weeks.
