
Marrakech Urban Tourism: 4th edition of the summit by the OMt on September 14 and 15.
After three first UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) summits on urban tourism, held in Istanbul (2012), Moscow (2013) and Barcelona (2014), which gave birth to an interdisciplinary platform on which many urban destinations around the world demonstrated a deep understanding of the new paradigms of urban tourism and adopted a common vision to adapt to change.
After three first UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) summits on urban tourism, held in Istanbul (2012), Moscow (2013) and Barcelona (2014), which gave birth to an interdisciplinary platform on which many urban destinations around the world demonstrated a deep understanding of the new paradigms of urban tourism and adopted a common vision to adapt to change.
For its fourth edition, the summit once again aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the intrinsic and extrinsic changes that urban tourism is experiencing with regard to planning, governance and operational processes. It will highlight the mutual impacts of tourism development and urban development in cities of different sizes around the world, and study ways to optimize the visitor experience while preserving and improving the quality of life of local populations by ensuring positive economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits.
Under the name « reinventing urban tourism », the acre city of Morocco will host this 4th edition, on December 14 and 15, 2015. According to the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) the themes to be addressed are:
- Characteristics of urban tourism;
- the positioning of urban tourism on the global market: quantitative and qualitative method.
- Sustainable development and effective management of competitive urban destinations as complex and plural systems of intertwined economic, social and environmental phenomena and networks: “the overall quality of the visitor experience”.
- Spatial organization and renovation of “tourist towns”: “tourism accessible to all” and “cultural heritage management”.
- Connectivity and competitiveness of urban tourism.
- The impact of the conference and mega-event sector.
