Mary-Rahma Homman, president of Women of Expertise-Morocco Section: “Morocco supports women in all its projects”
In this interview, Mary-Rahma Homman shares the main objective of the third edition of the International Congress “of 70 women of expertise from Africa” held from May 7 to 10 in Tangier. ALM: Could you explain to us the choice of “the issue of the performance of African companies within the Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF)” as the theme of this third edition? Mary-Rahma Homman: As you know, Morocco is one of the first countries to have carried out and encouraged the Zlecaf project. We decided, as women of expertise, to join in this project. As for the two previous editions held respectively in the Comoros and Cameroon, during this congress we wanted to enrich the debates and reflect on the importance of the Zlecaf while seeking to facilitate the identification of the best business opportunities offered by the zone. Especially since Africa is the future of the world. Does the congress keep the same objective of promoting female entrepreneurship? Female entrepreneurship remains at the heart of the work of this congress organized at the initiative of “Women of Expertise”. Because our goal is to highlight the expertise of African women as was the case for the two previous editions of the Union of Comoros and Cameroon. She must be proud of herself and her professional skills as director of a company and in other positions in different sectors such as agriculture and commerce or simple mothers. As I have just said, African women deserve recognition and support for their expertise and their contribution to the development of Africa. She must therefore be financially encouraged to create and develop her own business. As president of the Moroccan section of the association, what does the tribute paid during this congress to Moroccan women mean to you? We paid tribute to Comorian and Cameroonian women for the two previous editions held in their respective countries. We have chosen to honor Moroccan women during this congress organized in Morocco. As host country, it welcomes several delegations from different regions of Morocco and other African countries to take part. Since its launch, this congress has for four days presented the successful professional experiences of Moroccan women, while highlighting their expertise and know-how. They also participate with other African women in the various activities planned as part of this congress. Why did you choose Morocco, in particular Tangier, to hold this third edition? Because Morocco is the gateway to Africa. It opens its doors wide to students and researchers, many young Africans choose to come to train there. The Kingdom is on the right track thanks to the major projects led by HM King Mohammed VI, may God help him. Especially since Morocco supports women in all its projects. What are the main actions of “Women of Expertise” in favor of Moroccan women? The association honors African women as a whole. 70 of them have already been trained. They now have their own business and, whatever the importance of their project, are among the women of expertise. We schedule conferences and training workshops for them and provide them with support in creating their business. We try to convey the messages of the association considered as spokesperson for women who are in need and forgotten.
