
Medical tourism: with its experience, Morocco targets the African market
Morocco wants to promote medical tourism on the African continent. A vision presented during a forum held in Rabat which brought together numerous experts and diplomats from the continent. During a forum which brought together diplomats, experts and academicians on October 4 in Rabat, Morocco presented its vision of medical tourism, which it resolutely intends to direct towards the African continent. During this meeting initiated by the Mohammed V University of Rabat, in partnership with the Trophée de l’africanité Foundation, which focused on the theme “Morocco, a flagship destination for medical tourism in Africa”, the speakers underlined the positioning of Morocco “driven by the vision of the King, as a leader in medical tourism thanks to reforms aimed at improving its health system and its tourist infrastructure”.
The debates focused on Morocco’s experience as a “medical destination of choice” and on the future prospects of the medical sector in the country. The forum ended with the signing of an agreement for the organization of a medical caravan in Mali. The signatories placed emphasis on strengthening South-South cooperation through strengthening exchanges between African countries to improve care and access to medical services. A Liberian diplomat, Emmanuel Sayel Larmeh, affirmed in a statement for Le360 that his country “encourages medical tourism to Morocco” indicating that it is necessary to “multiply communication campaigns” aimed at African populations in this direction.
