Since its creation, Domaine Villate Limoune has been committed to respecting the environment. This daily commitment is today rewarded and recognized internationally with the granting of this “Green Key” label for responsible and sustainable tourism.

Actions to respect the environment take place at different levels:

Energy saving
Saving water
Wastewater management
Waste reduction and management
Own production: organic vegetable garden – production of citrus fruits and bananas
“Local” purchases
A social policy, promoting local jobs
Internationally, La Clef verte was launched by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 2002. With 2,400 certified establishments in 49 countries, it constitutes the first international network of ecological tourist structures that respect the environment. It is supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In Morocco, La Clef verte was introduced by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in 2007. In 2015, 59 tourist establishments in 25 cities in the Kingdom were labeled. Since its launch, Clef verte Maroc has had 125 labeled tourist accommodation establishments. In 2016, 80 establishments in Morocco obtained the label.

The vision of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment is to direct this tourism as much as possible towards responsible tourism. Its goal is to best protect these valuable ecological resources which we now know with certainty that without sustainable and responsible management, they are not renewable.

Since the creation of the Domaine, the desire to respect the environment has been a priority. This resulted in low land use for buildings (less than one percent). The use of ecological materials, local labor and the type of construction according to the “bio-climatic” principle. The decision to treat the estate on the principle of responsible agriculture (no pesticides or chemicals, generalization of composting, organic vegetable garden, etc.). No motorized activity for customers (bicycles, horses, football field, etc.). And creation of an animal park intended to educate visitors and especially children to love and respect animals.

The decision to participate in the Clef Verte program was taken in December 2015, with the appointment of Mr. Marc d’Haenen (Marketing and Communication Director of the Estate) as “Environment Manager” in charge of the labeling file. His experience of more than 30 years in the promotion of ecological and responsible tourism and his knowledge of the “Green Key” label will be the driving force behind this action.

In the short term, it was decided to begin replacing all of the Domaine’s lighting with the latest generation LED bulbs. This allowed us to divide the electricity consumption by 20 for the lighting station, both interior and exterior. Domestic hot water production is 100% obtained by solar panels. The Domaine does not use public water, we have our own wells and an Osmosis machine for producing drinking water. The entire Estate is irrigated and watered by latest generation drip installations (allowing more than 70% water savings). A pressure reduction and control system equips the pipes and reduces the consumption of taps and showers. The toilet flushes are Roca type, with 6 liter tank and double pressure button.

Implementation of the policy of reducing cleaning and laundry (which consumes a lot of water and cleaning products). Signs in each room explain that towels and bed sheets are not systematically changed every day. Only the bath towels on the floor are changed. Bed sheets are changed on request. We

Let’s reduce the lingerie item by at least 50% thanks to this policy.

Kitchen waste is sorted and all edible waste is used to feed the park animals. Animal manure is used as fertilizer for crops. We sort and recycle all our waste. Ecological trash cans are available throughout the Domaine. The most polluting waste, such as batteries, medicines, or others, must be returned to reception. Do not throw this waste into public trash cans.

No pesticides or chemicals on crops. The productions meet different labels: Ecocert, Global Gap, etc. We use non-polluting techniques as much as possible, such as CERATRAP, which is a trap for harmful insects, suspended in the orange trees, avoiding having to spray the trees with pesticide products.

As far as possible, recycled materials are used for all our creations: for example, for the signage of the Domaine was made using eco-responsible design. All signage is made from reclaimed wood from the Domaine. The work was carried out by local craftsmen.

At the restaurant level, vegetables grown in the organic vegetable garden. Breakfast jams are made with our ORGANIC fruits. Other supplies come from local producers. Since July 1, 2016, the national policy “Zero Mika”, for the total eradication of plastic bags in Morocco.
