The return of Morocco on the agenda of the 28th AU summit
The return of Morocco to the African Union (AU) is among the major points on the agenda of the 28th summit of African Heads of State and Government, which opened Monday January 30, 2017 in Addis Ababa.
Morocco’s request to rejoin the AU will thus be examined during a closed session on Monday afternoon.
This request already enjoys broad support from member countries who see in the return of the Kingdom an added value which should contribute to the consolidation of the action of the Union, called to take on numerous challenges of great strategic importance for the future of the continent.
Since the start of this summit, with the meetings of the AU executive council (January 25-27), statements from senior African officials reiterating support for Morocco’s return have multiplied.
These marks of support reflect the major role that the Kingdom plays in the continent thanks to proactive and active diplomacy led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, with win-win partnerships concluded with many countries.
These are declarations which also reflect the hope that the countries of the continent attach to the return of the Kingdom, a model of development and a weighing voice capable of defending the interests of Africa in international forums.
