Moroccan football resoundingly confirmed its leading position on the continental and world stages by winning six prizes out of eleven during the CAF Awards 2025 ceremony, which was held last night, Wednesday, in Rabat Douha El Madani, player of AS FAR and the women’s national team, won the prize for best young player, thus embodying the promising future of women’s football. Among the men, promising striker Othmane Maâma (Watford player) was crowned best young player of the year, crowning an exceptional career during the U20 World Cup, won by Morocco in Chile last October, where Maâma had already been voted best player of the year. tournament
This collective success also earned the Moroccan U20 National Team, led by coach Mohammed Ouahbi, the prize for the best African team of the year. This title is recognition of their historic feat in the World Cup, marked by prestigious victories against powers like Spain, Brazil and Argentina
On an individual level, colossal goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (goalkeeper of Al Hilal and the national team) consolidated his place among the best goalkeepers in the history of the continent by winning the award for the best African goalkeeper for 2025, ahead of his compatriot Munir El Mohamedi
This award adds to his achievements recent results, including her high rankings for the Ballon d’Or and the Yachine Trophy, Women’s football was not left out, as star Ghizlane Chebbak was voted best African player of the year, in recognition of her decisive role in the success of the « Atlas Lionesses » at the CAN and the Women’s World Cup
The most awaited moment of the evening was the awarding of the prize for the best African player to Achraf Hakimi. This continental title rewards the exceptional career of the right side of Paris Saint-Germain, who was also ranked sixth in the world rankings for the Ballon d’Or. Hakimi dedicated his prize « to all Moroccans and Africans who dream of playing football one day », promising that the Atlas Lions will spare no effort to win the CAN 2025, which will take place in Morocco.
