MARRAKECH: Visits not to be missed
The city is therefore divided into two parts: the medina enclosed within 10km of ramparts and the new city.
In the new town, there is little to see apart from theMajorelle gardensin Guéliz. Otherwise, the district is mainly to be visited if you want to discover the nightlife of Marrakech…
In the medina, on the other hand, you need to allow several days to visit. The most popular places, unmissable passages, are the Jemaa-el-Fna Square where you can eat among the numerous stalls, the Koutoubia minaret, and the Ben-Youssef Madrasa.
On the famous place Djemaa El-Fna there are street vendors, musicians and dancers (don’t forget to give a few dirhams to watch). To experience at the end of the day when the place comes alive. Also visit the old tanneries: an astonishing place which surprises with its beautiful palette of colors, always next to the Djemaa El-Fna square.
Then go to the Marrakech museum, the Almoravid Koubba, the Dar-el-Bacha museum, the El-Mansour mosque, the Saadian tombs, the Bahia palace… it’s up to you to put together the ideal program.
In the south of the Medina, go to Mellah, the Jewish quarter of Marrakech. If you stay in Marrakech for a long time, also go to the neighborhood and the mosque of Sidi El Abbès, to the tombs of Sidi Ben Slimane and Sidi Ahmed Soussi, and leave the medina on Avenue Mohamed VI where the largest nightclub in Afrique (Le Pacha) is located.
Dive into the souks of Marrakech
The souks are a great attraction of Marrakech, here you can buy almost anything. They are organized by district and by trade, but faced with the tourist influx many souks sell everything for tourists… But don’t panic, before having visited all the traditional ouks, you will have become experts in haggling!
